Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Starry starry night! This is an amazing view from Baggy Point on the north Devon coast. Night walking might just catch on, especially if there’s a full moon to light the way along the Coast Path.

Well there’s no reason to be when there is an elusive beauty that only reveals itself to the countryside once the sun has crept below the horizon.

With the sun setting shortly after work there isn’t much daylight left to get out and enjoy places such as Baggy Point. But when the forecast promised a clear night and below freezing temperatures I had high hopes for dramatic starry skies! The World War Two military training post, standing tall on Baggy Point , made a perfect focal point and was far enough away from lights to avoid excessive light pollution.

The Milky Way was clear and shooting stars tore across the sky from all angles, adding to the drama of the night.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast this winter, seek a safe location away from light pollution, wrap up warm and just look up.

Remember Exmoor National Park is a Dark Sky Reserve  so…
